Statement on Report of the Standing Senate Committee on National Finance

“The New Brunswick Medical Society (NBMS) is pleased that, in its report, the Standing Senate Committee on National Finance recognises that the Minister of Finance’s proposed changes to the Income Tax Act related to private corporations have many problematic elements.

The NBMS is also happy to see that the Senate Committee realises that proceeding with the tax reform as presented could lead to doctors reducing their hours, moving to another jurisdiction, or retiring early and that this will negatively affect patient care in Canada.

We fully support the Senate Committee’s call for an independent, comprehensive review of Canada’s tax system and call again on the Federal Government to completely withdraw its current tax proposal and press the reset button on tax reform.”
