Statement on payment for plasma donation
“The main concern of the New Brunswick Medical Society is that Health Canada and Canadian Blood Services continue to ensure the safety and quality of blood and plasma products for Canadian patients.
The paid plasma clinic in Moncton is licensed and strictly regulated by Health Canada. The products it collects should be just as safe as the plasma of volunteer donors.
While we respect the right of Canadian Plasma Resources to operate its paid plasma clinic in New Brunswick, the Medical Society believes that a strong, volunteer-based, plasma collection model should be a preferred approach. The Society supports the current Canadian Blood Services strategy for volunteer plasma collection to ensure long-term security of supply for Canada.”
