Panelists for Patient Dialogue on Seniors Care announced, event registration now open

FREDERICTON – Dr. Chris Simpson, Past President of the Canadian Medical Association; Suzanne Dupuis-Blanchard, PhD; and Dr. Ben Hoyt, Chief of Surgery in Fredericton, will feature September 21 at “A Patient Dialogue on Seniors Care in New Brunswick.” The New Brunswick Medical Society and the Canadian Medical Association will co-host the event, which invites the public to participate in a discussion about the future of seniors care.

Dr. Chris Simpson is a cardiologist at the Kingston General Hospital in Ontario. He’s a New Brunswick native who was born in Moncton but grew up in Nackawic. During his time as President of the Canadian Medical Association from 2014-2015, seniors care issues dominated headlines and political discussions.

“The future of seniors care is of interest to many Canadians caring for aging loved ones and wondering how things will be five or ten years down the road,” said Dr. Simpson. “It’s especially important in New Brunswick, which is tied for the oldest province in Canada.”

Suzanne Dupuis-Blanchard is the President of the Canadian Association on Gerontology. She is CNFS-Université de Moncton Research Chair in Population Aging, associate professor at the School of Nursing, and Director of the Centre for Aging Research at the Université de Moncton.

Benjamin Hoyt is an ear, nose, and throat surgeon in Fredericton. He is the Chief of Surgery for the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital in Fredericton. A strong advocate for better patient care, he has been a President of the Canadian Association for Interns and Residents.

 “We owe it to our seniors to give them the very best care into their golden years,” said Dr. Camille Haddad, President of the New Brunswick Medical Society. “All of us have today’s seniors to thank for caring for us when we were young, teaching us our life skills, and contributing to this country for decades.”

“A Patient Dialogue on Seniors Care in New Brunswick”will take place Sept. 21 at the Fredericton Convention Centre. The Patient and Providers Exhibition will open at 5:30 pm, while the expert panel and question and answer session begins at 6:30 pm. This event is open to the public.
