New Brunswick’s doctors welcome acclaimed physician Dr. Danielle Martin
FREDERICTON – With health care still a key concern for many, New Brunswick’s doctors welcomed Dr. Danielle Martin in advance of her lecture on her new book Better Now: Six Big Ideas to Improve Health Care for all Canadians.
Dr. Martin is a family doctor at Toronto’s Women’s College Hospital where she is also the Vice-President of Medical Affairs and Health System Solutions. She is also a national media commentator on health issues of concern to many Canadians. In 2013, Dr. Martin was named one of the Toronto Star’s top “13 People to Watch.” In 2014, she defended the Canadian health care system while acknowledging its flaws in a U.S. Senate Subcommittee hearing in Washington with Senators Richard Burr and Bernie Sanders. A video of her speaking at the hearing later went viral, amassing over 1.3 million views. In 2015, she was named Canada’s eighth most powerful doctor by The Medical Post. She appears regularly on CBC’s The National.
“We are so pleased to welcome a physician of Dr. Martin’s calibre to our province to share her expertise on our health care system,” said Dr. Lynn Murphy-Kaulbeck, President of the New Brunswick Medical Society.
Dr. Martin’s book centres around six “Big Ideas” about changes to the health care system that will improve health without a significant increase in spending, and without giving up the principles of Medicare. Her lecture will take place today in Fredericton at 2:30 at the University of New Brunswick campus, Marshall D’Avray Hall, Room 120.
